The Arts and Culture Infrastructure Survey was designed to provide the Department of the Premier and Cabinet with a snapshot of arts and culture infrastructure in South Australia through input from owners, operators, tenants, hirers and users.

The survey gathered feedback to understand the type, utilisation and state of arts and culture infrastructure spaces (including performance, rehearsal, exhibition, office accommodation, workshops/studios, commercial, retail and ancillary spaces).

It also asked about how infrastructure needs have changed over time, and the drivers of this change, and sought to identify current challenges, benefits, and opportunities (both infrastructure and non-infrastructure-related).

The results of the survey will support evidence-based decision making for investment considerations in the future.

The initial analysis indicates some common themes across arts and culture organisations and individuals. The Department of the Premier and Cabinet is keen to explore these themes further, including:

  • a desire for co-location, sharing of spaces, precinct arrangements and better collaboration across the sector
  • the need to ensure current premises/spaces are fit for purpose and appropriately maintained
  • challenges with availability and affordability of spaces.

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet will now prioritise and progress recommendations to strengthen the arts and culture sector and create positive change.

Thank you to the organisations and individuals who took part in the survey.
