The Department of the Premier and Cabinet strives to be a culturally responsive workplace and is committed to supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce and customers in every way.
We acknowledge and respect that our premises are located on the traditional land of Aboriginal people. We recognise the history and culture Aboriginal people hold over South Australia. We respect that Aboriginal people in South Australia still maintain and practice strong connections to these lands and the significance it has to their cultures, heritage and history.
Our vision for Reconciliation in South Australia is for the relationship between Aboriginal peoples and the wider community to be built on respect, understanding, and acknowledgement of the past and its impacts on the present, so that we can move together toward a shared future.
Our commitment to embedding Reconciliation activities in our work every day is reflected in our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan March 2020 – March 2023 (RAP).
Contained within our RAP are ambitious but achievable deliverables that will enable us to:
- value and celebrate indigenous lives, communities and cultures from across Australia
- honestly acknowledge the truths about Aboriginal experiences in post-colonial Australia
- foster mutual respect between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and communities
- support the economic development and self-empowerment of Aboriginal people and their communities.
Our RAP aims to create tangible, measurable change in our department and to influence positive change across government.
By enacting these changes, we aim to improve the recruitment, development and promotion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within DPC, promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ economic development and ensure we design and deliver services and policy in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities.
When we have a department that better reflects the richness of our South Australian society we can ultimately deliver better services to the South Australian community.
