South Australia is famous for its multicultural events and festivals. The Department of the Premier and Cabinet manages two major South Australian multicultural events and the online Multicultural Events Calendar.

Governor’s Multicultural Awards

The Governor’s Multicultural Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding South Australians who promote multiculturalism and increase understanding of the benefits of cultural diversity in our community.

The awards are held annually and administered by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet through Multicultural Affairs. They are presented by Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, on the advice of an independent judging panel.

Winners were announced at an award ceremony at Government House on Thursday 9 March 2023.

Nominations for the 2023 Governor’s Multicultural Awards will open later this year.

Multicultural Festival

The Multicultural Festival is a free, family friendly one-day event that celebrates multiculturalism through cultural music, dance, arts, crafts, and culinary delights.

Hosted by the state government, the festival has been the flagship event for promoting and showcasing multiculturalism in South Australia since 2013.

The Multicultural Festival provides an opportunity for South Australians to experience and enjoy a diverse range of cultures and traditions, and includes community groups from new, emerging and established South Australian multicultural communities.

The festival features performances, activities, and stalls for community groups to showcase their cultural heritage through art, craft, food, dance, music, and activities in a large-scale, positive, and celebratory platform.
