A review of the Emergency Management Act 2004 is underway, and consultation has now commenced via the government’s online consultation platform, YourSAy.

Members of the public are invited to share their views about the effectiveness of the legislation and complete a short survey before consultation closes on 30 January 2024.

The Emergency Management Act  2004 establishes the legislative framework and principles for coordinating activities before, during and after emergencies. It assigns key accountabilities and enables necessary authorities to effect response and recovery operations for the management of emergencies in South Australia.

Community feedback will help identify opportunities to improve the current legislation and ensure our state is best equipped to appropriately prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from significant emergencies.
