The first of its kind, two-state summit explored the impacts of social media on our children and young people.

The Social Media Summit was hosted in partnership by the Government of South Australia and New South Wales Government in Sydney on 10 October and Adelaide on 11 October 2024. A highlights video and livestream recordings are now available to watch on the summit webpage.
A wide range of experts, policymakers, academics, and young people came together at the summit to explore critical issues such as the mental health effects of social media, online safety and the role of social platforms in spreading misinformation and disinformation.
Insights gathered from the summit along with information from the legal examination into social media access for children conducted earlier this year, will help shape new policies, programs and resources to address the challenges posed by social media.
The Australian Government has committed to introduce legislation by the end of 2024 to enforce minimum age restrictions for social media. The South Australian Government is working closely with the Australian Government to support this important work.
