National Volunteer Week 2025 celebrates the power of volunteering to bring people together with the theme ‘Connecting Communities’.

As part of National Volunteer Week, which runs from 19-25 May, we recognise and celebrate all of the volunteers who support our statutory authorities and cultural institutions, like South Australian Museum volunteer, Colleen Moore.
A museum volunteer since retiring as a school principal in 2017, Colleen started as a tour guide and now spends her time supporting the Discovery Centre’s behind the scenes animal operations, where among other things, she tends to a collection of lizards and frogs, helping to keep them happy and healthy.
Connecting with communities and creatures great and small through her role, Colleen enables visitors to engage with the more scientific side of the museum, by observing the museum’s beloved animals, hopefully inspiring future scientists and researchers in the field of natural history and biodiversity.
Thank you to Colleen and all of the fantastic volunteers for contributing to our thriving and inclusive communities.
