Our Protocol team advise the Office of the Premier and ministerial staff on policy and procedures in relation to government hospitality.
They coordinate a number of official functions and events hosted by the Premier, or ministerial representative, including:
- state funerals and memorial services
- swearing-in of the Governor
- state dinners
- special events – such as state receptions for Olympic and Paralympic Welcome Home Parades.
While these functions have quite distinct formats and requirements, the major considerations for planning are the same, whether the event is an afternoon tea, luncheon, dinner or reception.
Special consideration needs to be given to the suitability and availability of the venue, menu options, standard of dress, seating arrangements, program and timing of the function.
For more information and advice on matters of official procedure during state functions and events, please contact our Protocol Unit directly.
Their function planning checklist is available to download.
