In a highly contested grant round, 11 applications were recommended for funding totalling over $182 000.
Amongst the successful applicants was playwright Kelly Vincent, who was awarded $10 000 for a first stage creative development to reimagine Robert Hewett’s 1983 play, Gulls. Working with theatre maker Alirio Zavarce, Kelly will bring a new perspective to the work based on the lived experience of disability.
Also successful in the round was Restless Dance Theatre, who were awarded $25 000 for their new production Guttered. Set in a bowling alley (see picture above) the work will explore the notion of being a winner or a loser and failure as a conduit for personal development.
The Richard Llewellyn Deaf and Disability Arts program supports projects and initiatives by South Australian practising professional Deaf and disabled artists.
Funding was available in Emerging Artist, Individual Artist and Organisation/Group categories.
