The program’s February 2020 funding round is now open for categories supporting the development of new work and its production or presentation, and for professional development opportunities.

The Independent Makers and Presenters program supports activity in two main areas: professional development and projects.

Past recipients of Professional Development grants

Visual artist, Christian Lock (work pictured above), received an Individual Development grant to attend the 13th International Cairo Biennale in Egypt in April 2019. With three new works included in the exhibition, the grant enabled Christian to take up a significant opportunity to enhance his international profile through connections with collectors and curators.

Restless Dance Theatre received a Building Pathways grant to bring three international presenters to the 2019 Adelaide Festival for the world premiere of Zizanie directed by Meryl Tankard. The grant enabled Restless to promote their brand and strategically position the new work for international touring.

Amos Gebhardt (work pictured below) received support to develop a new series of large-scale photographic works for a solo show at Tolarno Galleries (Melbourne) in October 2019. Titled Night Horse, the image series highlights the power and credence of non-human narratives.

Australian Dance Theatre received a Major Commission grant towards the development of new double bill North/South. Created in collaboration with acclaimed Norwegian choreographer, Ina Christel Johannessen, North/South premiered at the Adelaide Festival Centre in September 2019 and Dance Australia described the work as “…utterly compelling…one of the most memorable and exciting theatrical works in recent memory”.
