Community groups can now apply for a share of $1 million available through the State Government’s Fund My Community grant program.

Grants of between $10,000 and $100,000 are available for projects aimed at supporting disadvantaged, isolated or vulnerable South Australians to participate in their local communities and build foundations for positive change in their lives.

Non-profit, incorporated organisations can apply for the program which this year has a focus on ‘Connect, Grow, Build, Belong’.

The public will then play an important role by voting for the projects they think should receive a share of the funding. The approach involves citizens in government decision making and ultimately has a greater impact on the community.

Previous grant recipients include Food for the Community which used its $15,000 grant to buy a van used to collect and deliver food to those in need. Strength in Numbers used its funding to cover the costs associated with providing financial counselling services to women escaping domestic violence.

Eligibility criteria and the types of projects that can be funded are available online.

Applications close on 31 March and the public can vote online from 17 April until 29 May.
