Positioning South Australia as an outward looking economy – open to new people and investment opportunities - is vital to the state’s competitiveness in the global marketplace.

Our International teams support the Premier to negotiate partnerships and commercial opportunities that contribute to South Australia’s continued economic growth and social prosperity.

The Partnerships and Strategy team manages the Memorandum of Understanding with the Northern Territory as well as co-ordinates all state government activities in key overseas markets, by ensuring the government has an integrated, strategic approach to all international activities. They develop partnerships with relevant Commonwealth agencies (particularly The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), foreign governments, diplomatic networks, key advisory bodies and the private and community sectors.

In recognition of our close and long-standing relationship with China, the China Strategy team was formed to manage and further strengthen partnership opportunities with China and encourage Chinese investment in the State. We also have a strong partnership with the French Engagement Office which has been established to maximise opportunities for South Australia arising from Defence’s Future Submarines Program.

The Commercial team provides strategic and commercial advice on major projects and opportunities identified through national and international engagement activities. They lead the implementation of high scale, complex commercial projects and investment opportunities identified by the Partnerships and Strategy, China Strategy and Intergovernmental Relations teams.

Our International teams also work in close partnership with our Protocol Unit to manage incoming and outgoing international missions. Protocol develops programs for VIP and official visitors to South Australia, coordinates official functions and ceremonial state events, and provides advice and support on matters of protocol.
