The Department’s Office of the Chief Economist provides high-quality economic analysis and advice to support the Premier and Treasurer.

Their primary areas of work include leading work across government on the ten Economic Priorities, impact investment, analysis and advice on opportunities to enhance the state economy.

Driving job creation is a priority as South Australia transitions from the old economy to the new, with a focus on evolving the business environment and the capacity of the economy to create sustainable jobs for the future.

The Office supports the government’s ambitions to de-carbonise the state’s economy through the Low Carbon Economy Unit.

The Office also provides regular presentations and briefings on economic trends, and forecasts to support the state budget.
